Victory over Charing X puts Uxbridge 1 top of the league
Uxbridge 1st team completed the double over a very strong Charing X 2 in the Middlesex Senior League Division 1.
Missing first string Ondrej Uherka, Sam Miller couldn’t get past former British Junior Champion Jamie Douglas losing 3-0 putting the pressure on Gurbaj Khalon who pulled off a brilliant 3-0 win against the dogged Mike Pittams to go 1-1.
Although this was by bar far the strongest side that Charing X have put out this season, Uxbridge took the next two games. Third string Ben Hedger won comfortably 3-0 and Harry Carr, who fresh from a few weeks away, shook off the ring-rust with a 3-1 win over Max Miller.
Tom Chambers however could not overcome experienced Rob Mathews and although taking 2-1 lead, he could not hold on being pipped 14-12 in the 4th and 11-7 in the fifth.
Nevertheless two very important bonus points for Uxbridge giving 16 in total and putting the club top. Cumberland are a point behind and with a game in hand so we the team will be looking to turn them over in a couple of weeks’ time.
Next home game is against West Herts on Monday 29th January. Come down and support the lads with a pint and let’s see if we can keep up the pressure on Cumberland.
